It provides unique experiences that create memories that will last for a lifetime. Join us on board!
During this first week of our half year journey, you fill up your senses while cruising through blue water, watching the beautiful and iconic islands of Greece and gazing at millions of stars above. The combination of this and being far away from distraction and day to day life, encourages us to find total relaxation on board of the New Horizons.
After we lift anchor and set the sails for the first cruise on this half year journey of the New Horizons we’ll meet the endless coasts of Kos with the turquoise waters, the vegetation, the affluent water springs, the ancient and medieval monuments, as well as the impressive Greek buildings. Kos island is the third largest island of Dodecanese complex, located just 4 miles away from the Turkish coasts. The name probably derives from the daughter of the mythical King Meropas, called Koos.
As we sail further, we see Nisyros. This is not your typical Greek island. This small land mass in the Aegean is also an active volcano. Nisyros’s volcano is one of the few anywhere in the world that can be easily visited. Anyone can make the short drive to the site and then spend hours wandering around the hydrothermal craters with their wonderful names: Stefanos, Polyvotis, Alexandros. This other-worldly landscape has the potential to make Nisyros a world-famous destination
Invisible from the sea and located atop the natural walls of the caldera, the village thrived during the age of pirates. On the opposing cliffs, Nikia welcomes you with is picturesque and oft-photographed squarebehind are all around the islands.
Next on the horizon is Tilos. An island with rough, mountainous and verdant volumes, hills and plains where four hundred species of flowers and herbs germinate, inhabited by numerous species of rare birds (Bonelli’s eagle, hawks, nightingales, goldfinches, herons, bee-eaters etc). It has picturesque villages and charming beaches. This is the place where the last elephants of Europe lived
From there it is a day sailing to Karpathos, one of the most beautiful islands of Dodecanese. It is located on the southern side of the Aegean Sea. Due to the secluded location and the distance from the other Greek islands, Karpathos island started developing in the last decades. In fact, the southern side of the island has mostly developed in tourism, while the central and the northern side has remained unspoiled and authentic, with picturesque villages away from mass tourism. Karpathos Greece is mostly famous for the exotic beaches with the golden sand and the crystal water.
We lift the anchor and head for the next island: Kasos. Primeval landscapes of natural beauty, ancient history, living traditions and nobility in one of the last strongholds of the old, authentic Greece. Rocky and unusual, it is a far cry from the standard mass tourism destination; a very special experience for any visitor.
On Thursday we head for Crete. It is a magical tapestry of splendid beaches, ancient treasures, and landscapes encompassing vibrant cities and dreamy villages, where locals share their traditions, wonderful cuisine and generous spirit. Crete’s natural beauty is equalled only by the richness of its history. The island is the birthplace of the first advanced society on European soil, the Minoans, who ruled some 4000 years ago, and you’ll find evocative vestiges all over, including the famous Palace of Knossos.
This cruise is much more than just a vacation. It provides unique experiences that create memories that will last for a lifetime!
Sitia is an attractive seaside town that hasn’t sold its soul to mass tourism. Whitewashed houses cling to a hillside laced by steep staircases and topped with a ruined Venetian castle. Below, a promenade lined with tavernas and cafes hems in the fishing harbour.
You’ll have the whole Friday to relax on board, go to one of to the sandy beaches or discover Crete. At the crossroads of three continents, Crete has been coveted and occupied by consecutive invaders. History imbues Hania and Rethymno, where labyrinthine lanes – laid out by the Venetians – are lorded over by mighty fortresses, and where gorgeously restored Renaissance mansions rub rafters with mosques and Turkish bathhouses. The Byzantine influence stands in magnificent frescoed chapels, churches and monasteries.
Saturday, the final day. The guests that stay on board for another week, say goodbye to old friends that will leave today and ahoy to the new friends that arrive for another week of discovery. This next journey will take the New Horizons along the northern coastline of Crete, discovering enchanting villages and exploring sun kissed beaches.
